Dear SCO Customer, The enclosed Support Level Supplement (SLS) UOD368B provides a new passwd(C) utility which addresses two problems: 1. A problem where using the -l (or -u) option causes the user's account to be removed from the system. This applies to all systems listed below. 2. A problem where a user with "auth" privilege's can change his/her own password without being prompted for the old one first. This does not apply to SCO UNIX System V/386 Release 3.2 Operating System Version 2.0 or SCO Open Desktop Release 1.1.x. SLS UOD368B will install on: SCO UNIX System V/386 Release 3.2 Operating System Version 2.0, 4.0, 4.2 SCO UNIX System V/386 Release 3.2 Operating System Version 4.0 with Maintenance Supplement Version 4.1/4.2 SCO Open Desktop Release 1.1.x, 2.0 and 3.0 SLS UOD368B is custom(ADM) installable and removable. SLS UOD368B consists of a single floppy volume. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS ========================= To install SLS UOD368B, use custom(ADM) and take the following steps: 1. Enter the command: custom 2. The main custom menu will appear. Press to select Install. 3. A window of options opens in the lower right-hand corner of the screen. Press again to select A New Product from among these options. 4. The next screen highlights the Entire Product option. Press to select this option. 5. Custom prompts you to insert Floppy Volume 1. Insert SLS UOD368B and press . You will see the message: Installing custom data files... followed by: Executing Product Prep Script. 6. The Prep Script will display the version of the operating system and prompt: Press Enter to Continue : Press . 7. If the operating system is invalid, a message will be displayed indicating that the installation has been aborted, followed by the prompt: Press Enter to Continue : Press to get the prompt: Press any key to continue Press any key and custom will display ERROR in the top right hand corner of the screen and: Error: Init script failed in the bottom left hand corner. Press to be returned to the Products Currently Installed screen of custom(ADM). 8. If the operating system is valid, a message will be displayed indicating that the system is compatible with SLS UOD368B, followed by the prompt: Press Enter to Continue : Press . 9. Custom will display the message "Creating files list ..." in the top left hand corner of the screen. 10. You will be prompted to: Insert: Support Level Supplement UOD368B Floppy Volume 1 into the floppy drive. Ensure that the correct volume is in the floppy drive and select Continue. 11. Custom will display the message: Extracting files ... followed by: Executing Support Level Supplement UOD368B Init Script 12. The Init Script will validate the operating system release and version, check for SCO Open Desktop environment and return to custom. Custom then displays: Press any key to continue : Press any key. 13. Custom will display the message "Checking file permissions..." before you are returned to the Products Currently Installed screen of the custom(ADM) utility. Press q to quit custom, or use the left arrow key to select Quit and press . REMOVAL INSTRUCTIONS ==================== To remove SLS UOD368B, use custom(ADM) and take the following steps: 1. Enter the command: custom 2. Use the left/right arrow keys to select Remove and press . 3. A window of options opens. Use the up/down arrow keys to select: Support Level Supplement UOD368B from the list of options and press . 4. A "Support Level Supplement UOD368B" window opens. Use the up/down arrow keys to select the ALL option and press . 5. Custom will then ask: Do you wish to continue? [Yes] No Select Yes and press . 6. The removal script will then validate the operating system release and version and check for an SCO Open Desktop environment. If the operating system is not valid or the SLS is not removable you will be returned to custom(ADM) with an error. 7. If the operating system is valid, the operating system version is displayed and you will see the prompt: Press Enter to Continue : Press . 8. The removal script will then display a message indicating that SLS UOD368B has been removed and that you will be returned to the custom utility. You will see the prompt: Press Enter to Continue : Press . 9. custom(ADM) presents you with the prompt: Press any key to continue Press any key. 10. Custom will display the message "Creating files list ..." in the top left hand corner of the screen. 11. Custom will display the message "Removing files ..." in the top left hand corner of the screen. 12. You are then returned to the Products Currently Installed screen of the custom(ADM) utility.
